Dust Masks Keep More Than Dirt Out

This year is looking like it is going to be a monster year for pollen. With the warmer than usual weather the reports of trees blooming are already hitting the news channels.

If you are one of the people who have allergies to trees you will need a good dust mask to help you deal with the season. They call them dust masks but they really do more than just filter out dust. A good one will also take care of pollen, grass, mold spores, animal dander and yes even dust.

Here is an article from a health and fitness blog that talks a little bit about the difference in masks. The Dust And Pollen Mask Is Useful For Clean Breathing

Allergies and How to Control Them

What are allergies?

Allergies are the result of a malfunction of the immune system that causes the body to respond to harmless proteins as if they were a threat.  Once they are identified as a threat, the body thinks it is at war and begins to produce histamines, resulting in a range of symptoms such as sneezing, wheezing, watery eyes and stuffy nose.

It is a miserable way to live and therefore allergy control can be an important step in improving quality of life for the allergy sufferer.

The most common sources of allergens are certain food products, dust mites, pet dander and pollen.  Food products generally cause an adverse reaction when eaten and these types of allergies can be controlled simply by avoiding the food in question.  For airborne allergens, it may be necessary to rely on allergy control products to help minimize problems.

First thing you need is visit your doctor and if they are not an allergist you need to get a referral to see one. They will do tests and find out what you are allergic to. Then you can make informed discisions and plan a course of action.

Allergy Beddding Covers – So Many Choices

Now days we hear a lot about dust mites, bed bugs and toxic chemicals in our bed. Starting to think it may be better just to sleep on the floor.

With all the information out there about allergy bedding and covers it’s hard to decide which is better. My personal opioin is to go with one that is membrane free. By that I mean does not have that plastic coating on the inside. Here is an article that talks about the various types of allergy bed covers.

“Covers will also come in a range of micron sizes. This is important to know because the micron size helps determine how much allergen is actually being stopping from getting through the protective covering. If you do not know what you need, ask the professionals. Your doctor is a good source of information and probably used to being asked the question if he has recommended to his other patients to use bed covers. The store personnel should also be able to help you. If they cannot then leave and go to another store that can.”

You can find some basic information about the covers. Bottom line is well made allergy bedding covers will last you for years.

What Using The Right Allergy Control Products Will Do

There are all sorts of products being sold as allergy control products now days. Some work great and many are just hype. Do your homework. Talk you your friends, doctors and companies that have been selling the products. Ask them what worked, how fast, what did it cost, easy or hard to use.

Have a friend that bought several air cleaners while living in London and even though they were rated #1 she thought they were junk. She now uses Austin Air Healthmates and loves them. Plastic vs metal??

Here is a fairly good article about how some of the allergy control products work.
